Calculation method

Exact probability, not a simulation

The calculator enumerates every possible result for the three selected dice. A Common, Rare, and Epic lineup has 3 × 4 × 5 = 60 equally likely combinations; three Unique or Legendary dice have 6 × 6 × 6 = 216. Because that search space is small, the displayed percentage is exact for the current model rather than an estimate produced by random sampling.

floor((die 1 + die 2 + die 3 + flat bonuses) × total multiplier)

A combination counts as a win when its floored final value is greater than or equal to the target. The range and median are calculated from the same complete outcome list, so they use the same bonuses, multiplier stacking, and rounding behavior as the probability result.

Reproducible worked examples

These examples are generated from the same rules used by the live calculator. They are useful as regression checks: entering the listed tiers, bonuses, multiplier, and target should reproduce the same range and probability.

DiceBonusMultiplierTargetRangeWinning outcomesProbability
d6 + d6 + d60123–1881 / 21637.5%
d3 + d4 + d5+41.5×1810–2430 / 6050.0%
d6 + d6 + d6+11.8×207–34108 / 21650.0%

How to interpret the percentage

The percentage answers one narrow question: if the three dice are rolled once under the entered bonuses, how often does the final value reach this target? It does not decide whether a route or reward is worth taking.

Compare the probability with the cost of failure, remaining AP, reroll availability, and the value of alternative tiles. A 60% attempt can be reasonable for an optional high-value reward and unacceptable when a failed check would end the route.

What this calculator does not model

  • Reroll strategy or conditional decisions after a roll.
  • AP routing and the value of revealing later reward tiles.
  • Unconfirmed or hidden expedition matching behavior.
  • Effects whose activation condition has not been entered.
  • Changes made by a future MapleStory patch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the dice result calculated?

The formula is: (Dice Bonus + Dice 1 + Dice 2 + Dice 3) x Multiplier

Each familiar rolls a die based on its tier:

  • Common: d3 (rolls 1-3)
  • Rare: d4 (rolls 1-4)
  • Epic: d5 (rolls 1-5)
  • Unique: d6 (rolls 1-6)
  • Legendary: d6 (rolls 1-6)

Potentials and items add dice bonuses (flat values) and multipliers (applied to the total).

What affects win probability?

Win probability depends on several factors:

  • Familiar tiers: Higher tiers roll larger dice
  • Dice bonus: Flat additions from potentials and items
  • Multiplier: Applied to your total roll
  • Target number: The number you need to meet or exceed

The calculator shows both your possible roll range (min to max) and the exact probability of winning.

How do dice items work?

Dice items obtained during exploration add to your bonuses. There are 4 categories:

  • Blessed Dice: Pure dice bonus (+3 to +15)
  • Swift Rolling Dice: Pure multiplier (1.2x to 2.0x)
  • Sharp Edged Dice: Negative dice (-1) with high multiplier (1.6x to 2.4x)
  • Holy Rollers: Positive dice (+1) with multiplier (1.4x to 2.2x)

Items stack during a run. By Stage 5, you may have multiple items boosting your rolls significantly.

Can I import my deck configuration?

Yes! If you've built a deck in the Deck Builder, you can import it directly into the calculator.

This automatically sets your familiar tiers and potential bonuses, saving you time and ensuring accuracy when calculating your win rates.

What target numbers should I aim for?

Target numbers vary by map tier and stage. Higher tier maps have higher targets but better rewards.

Use this calculator to determine which map tiers you can reliably complete with your current deck. There is no universal safe percentage: compare the chance of success with the AP cost, available rerolls, and the value of the reward you would give up by choosing a different tile.
